Rams?

The St. Louis rams are a team in trouble. The troubles are caused mainly by an offensive line that can't protect their quarterback (or running back for that matter). Yeah, sure, a lot of the problems is that the players on that line are injured, but they are also aging and they won't get any younger.

This is why the rams most likely will try to fix their offensive line through the draft (remember that Bulger signed a six year deal prior to this season). Jake Long would make sense, as would Sam Baker.

Who dat gonna be QB for them Bears?

Well. Another team, another no-brainer.

It seems that the bears finally realized that Rex Grossman wasn't the QB to lead their offense. Thank god they finally understood what the rest of the world has known for about a year. Griese has been playing better since taking over but not good enough to be their franchise guy. My guess is that Griese will play next season (unless they sign Vinny Testaverde ;)) while they are preparing their first round QB for life as a NFL starter.

Yes, the bears will choose a QB in the first round of the 2008 draft. Who it'll be? Depends on how bad they play this year, but my guess is that when they get on the clock at least two of the three best QB's (Ryan, Woodson and Brohm) will be off the board and they will have to settle for the remaining one. If they play to good this year all three may be gone which means that they'd probably have to settle for someone like Colt Brennan or John David Booty (Booty hasn't been playing all that well this year and is, as of now injured whilst his backup is playing good for USC). If they have to take Brennan or Booty some where in between picks 20-28 it will probably be a bit of a reach.

Let us just hope, for their owns good, that they play bad enough to get one of the best QB's of the year's class.

Sleeper for the 2008 draft

After watching some college football last weekend I've found a nice sleeper for the draft: Georgia Tech fullback Mike Cox. He is an excellent blocker and will provide brilliant blocking for any running back, and he probably won't be drafted until late day 2.

Will the falcons ever fly?

Well, they won't with Harrington under center, and I seriously doubt that Leftovich is the answer to their QB problem. So who will they start next year? My Guess Duante Culpepper. His contract with the Raiders is only one year long so after this season he'll be free to go where he wants to, or rather to the team that pays the most, which very likely can be the Falcons.

Who will they draft then? Well, they will draft a QB, that is for certain, and everybody says it will be Brian Brohm since he played for Petrino in college and sure, why not. Personally I would rather pick Woodson from Kentucky och Ryan from BC.

Bengals; Anybody afraid of them tigers?

Thought so. Sure, the Bengals have one of the greatest passing attacks in the league with Howdoyouspellit and Ocho Cinco getting the balls from Palmer, but that is all they have.

Sure, there defense plays great sometimes, very seldom though, like when they beat the Ravens, but giving up all those points against the Browns???!? Come on now, how do you score 45 points and manage not to win?

So what will the Bengals do in this draft? One possibility is getting a running back, but it is much more likely that they will see to the defensive side of the ball, I mean has anybody seen the Bengals depth chart at Linebacker? No, thought so, 'cause there is none. I say they pick a linebacker and a defensive lineman with their first two picks.

Will the saints start marching now?

The saints finally won a game; Good for them. They still have some problems though, especially on defence.

An educated guess, and this guess is really a no-brainer, is that they will consider that side of the ball this draft. They'll probably choose the best defensive player avaliable in the draft (except for defensive ends, which is one of the few areas I think their defence is solid). If Dorsey i left when they pick they will look hard at him and probably pick him even if the secondary, and especially cornerback, is a larger need for the team. Problem is that the only secondary player worthy of a top ten pick, and as of now this is where the Saints seem to get their pick, is Miami safety Kenny Phillips. They might consider a linebacker as well, but most of all they need a really good corner.

Perhaps they reach for one or trade down if they find themselves in the top ten on draft day.

Needs of the Dolphins

Last night I watched the Dolphins lose to the Browns. And watching that game raised a few question and thoughts about what needs the Dolphins need to adress this upcoming draft.

First of all. I am not at all sure that Trent Green will start any more games for the fins this season. Not because of the concussion but because Cleo Lemon was playing good when he got the chance. And that is one of the major issues on this years Dolphins team: Giving the QB the protection he needs to be able to deliver the ball to the recievers.

The other major problem is on the other line, the defensive one. Miami can't stop the run. So they'll need to adress that problem to.

If they get an early first round pick and, as of now, all signs tell us that they will. I think that they will look at two players: Jake Long and Glenn Dorsey. The best offensive and defensive linemen in the upcoming draft. If one of them is gone when the fins get on the clock they'll probably go for the other one.

But, consider, for instance, that when the time comes for Miami to make their pick (and it might just be the first pick overall) and if McFadden is still on the board. Don't be surprised if they consider offers for their first pick. The Cowboys would, for instance, love to add McFadden to their offense to help their running game become a real threat. And the cowboys have two first round picks (thanks to the Brady Quinn trade up by the Browns last year). If I was in the Dolphins war room, I'd seriously consider giving up an early pick for to first round picks to help strengthen both lines.

What is this?

The question in the titel is probably really justified. How can someone from Sweden know enough to talk about the NFL draft? Well, I probably don't know enough, but I watch a lot of football (both NFL and NCAA) and I read a lot, so I thought: "Why couldn't I make predictions about the draft?"

So here goes.

The reason that there is no mock draft here as of yet is that it is silly to start guessing where the teams will end season six weeks into it. Instead, I'll try to see what needs the teams have.
